laundry

I got the clothesline up a mere six months after we moved in, and in the last few weeks the weather has been dry enough that I can use it. I'm so pleased with my ingenuity. I can step out the laundry room door and hang clothes out without getting my feet wet/muddy/frozen. This is on the east side of the house, so the clothes are in shade most of the day (even so I don't hang my colored socks outside.) There's always plenty of wind around here, though, so if I'm home all day I can dry two loads.

So far, I haven't dropped any clothes, only pins. It's pretty scary looking down sixteen feet, even though the railing is quite sturdy.

  1. There's nothing quite like having a clothesline. But the 16-foot drop might give me pause - I'm so clumsy!

  2. Clotheslines are so much better than dryers. Dryers annoy me because they "seal in" any stains that haven't been washed out. Messy people like me can't afford getting all those stains sealed into their clothes :)

  3. Oh Golly I remember having to hang clothes out on the line when I was little. They got all stiff unless it was really windy. But I love clotheslines.

  4. Bag Lady, it's sixteen feet from my eyes, not my feet. I'm getting better at ignoring it. And it's not like the clothes would break if I dropped them.
Sagan, my love for coffee and chocolate is one of the reasons I have so many beige clothes. Preemptive color strike.
Melissa, there's always wind here. I know the wind power experts say Kentucky doesn't have enough reliable wind, but in this spot...I'm thinking I might have a wind turbine some day.

  5. That's great that you have a clothesline. I'll bet the clothes smell amazing after drying outdoors!
Make sure you have your coffee first for maximum mental alertness, that first step looks like a doozy...

  6. Hello Maryanne in Kentucky...thanks for posting a comment on my blog. I'm 53 years old so I know what you mean when you say we have much more to reminisce about. I'm surprised I can remember how to spell the word 'reminisce.'

    Love clothing dried outdoors.

  7. Love the smell of clothes from the fresh air outside! It's much better than, as Sagan said having all those stains dried right into the clothes when using the dryer. That sixteen foot drop would worry me! Hope you have great laundry days!

  8. Hi Solarity! Love the smell of fresh air clothes! The dryer just doesn't have the same effect as Sagan says. That sixteen foot drop scares me, though! Grab tight onto that railing! Hope you have lots of happy laundry days! Sorry to hear about your father this summer. You've had a lot of difficult days to deal with. Hope you have a great weekend. I tried to send this before, but, it wouldn't go through. Maybe this one will!

  9. Apparently malicious weatherbots were watching my blog. I say how much I enjoy being able to hang the laundry outdoors, and presto! we have a forecast for a whole week of rain.
