lost and found

First it was dry. Then it rained a lot. A whole lot. Things grew.

Food plants almost disappeared.

Yesterday I spent half an hour with a hoe, chopping weeds while managing not to kill any broccoli or peppers.

I found it!

I cut half a cup of broccoli. (There's a little more waiting.) July 28th is a ridiculous date for a first harvest of broccoli.
There are two peppers: one small, that I hope will grow a bit more, and one tiny. Not much of a harvest for the amount of work I put into it.

  1. It will be awhile yet before (if at all!) I am able to harvest any broccoli! It has been horribly dry here. But it IS raining this morning, which should help!

  2. Those darn weeds. We always plant way too large of a garden, and then we are weeding forever, especially when the chick weeds take over. We have never tried to grow broccoli, but will have to. We are constantly buying it! Happy gardening!

  3. I wish I could say growing broccoli was cheaper than buying it, but not this summer! One time I had enough to eat every day and to freeze about two quarts (in smaller packets.) But peppers: like tomatoes, they taste so much better right off the plant. Even locally grown peppers only a day old don't taste as good.

  4. I know just what you mean...when I went out to the garden this morning and couldn't believe how many weeds had sprouted in the last couple of days!
