Sunday morning coffee with hummingbird

No, of course there isn't a picture of a hummingbird. I didn't have the camera when I saw the female hummer feeding from the thistles outside the living room window this morning. Me with my coffee cup and she with her beak, each of us revving up for the day.

I am a Bad, Bad Landowner for not getting out there with the weed eater or hoe or something as soon as I was off the crutches last month and getting rid of those thistles before they could flower and spread themselves all over the pastures here abouts, but I was unfairly rewarded for my slackness.

  1. Hey, I think the colour of thistle flowers is one of the most beautiful in nature. Although, that blue bird a few posts back was an astonishing colour too!

  2. So, did that hummer have a note attached to her leg? (I had a helluva time tying that on there, but she promised to deliver it....)

Get rid of those thistles! I thought you were going to get a cow....

  3. One of these years I'll try to raise a steer, but before that I want goats. And before that, chickens. Chickens have to be fed, but not milked, if you see what I mean.

And before the chickens, I need to get my orchard planted. There is just not enough time in the day.

  4. Thistles have a right to exists. Well, that's what I'd be telling myself anyway. Meanwhile, the Hummingbird appreciated it which has to count for something.

  5. Let this be Hummingbird Appreciation Week. We can appreciate the hummingbirds, and they can appreciate our weeds.

  7. Now that I no longer run around barefoot in the yard, I can appreciate the beauty of thistles. What a nice color. Or colour, as the Bag Lady would say.

And I'm SO glad to hear you're off your crutches. I just pulled some weird muscle in my right hip when I was dancing last week. It's severely cramping my style, but so far no crutches.
