decay and renewal

The leaves have been looking shabbier and shabbier. Suddenly the new bloom, the first since midsummer, opened before I'd even seen the bud (several feet above eye level.) I'd like to think it an omen.

  1. That spathaphylium needs fertilizer, and probably a bigger pot.
    It told me so.

  2. Always encouraging to see new growth.. unless it's in my jeans.

  3. Daryl, it will get a topping of topsoil in the spring, when I can get out in the woods and scoop some up. It can't possibly need a bigger pot. It hasn't spread out any in the six or eight months since I split it in half and took my half home from work. (My grandmother never used artificial fertilizer on her house plants, and they thrived, as can be seen by the fact that she died in 1970 and I still have some of her plants.)

Hilary, what about growth in your genes?

  4. Ah! Maybe you'll get more! I think Daryl might be right about the bigger pot.
